What was once a slow boat is now a fast train...
Last Thursday, Jane and I visited my OB/GYN for a fertility consultation. I took copius notes, while Jane did most of the talking. The appropriate paperwork has been signed, appointments made, bloodwork ordered.
We are officially making a baby.
This has been something that was always somewhere off on the horizon, far away. Now it is unavoidably here in the present. I am overwhelmed and seemingly underprepared. Here I was thinking that all of this knowledge comes naturally, that one receives a "cosmic upload" once one is ready. Silly me...
Thankfully, I am surrounded by people who have been at this a lot longer and posess much wisdom. The gaybors gave me a heap of books and are ready to dispense advice should I need it.
Not to mention the fact that I'm lucky enough to have a spouse who has given birth. Though I'm not much sure how much help she'll be -- every time the subject comes up, she cracks a wry smile as if to say just you wait.
So, I will spend November and December tracking my cycle, having bloodwork done, and generally preparing my body and mind for what will be the biggest change I've ever faced in my life.
